The government of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasiru El-Rufai recently announced the increment in Kaduna State University (KASU) and tertiary institutions in the state. The increment of KASU fees was announced through the management of the school. When the news first came out, it was debunked by the management until recently when the management confirmed it.
The increment is an act of wickedness and insensitivity by the government of the Kaduna State, looking at the level of insecurity in Kaduna State in particular. The State have been troubled with banditry and kidnapping in recent times.
Way Forward: Kaduna state government need to reverse it stand on the school fees increment to safe many students whom are mostly from poor homes and are at verge of dropping out of the school, due to their inability to afford the new hike in school fees, which ranges from #400,000 #300,000 and 200,000 against the previous #50,000 paid averagely .
If the government failed, the students will be left with no option than to protest the injustice, possibly, other high profile citizenry will talk to the government to reverse the already approved increment. While, that may be effective because, that's the only language most government understand in Nigeria.
Youths: According to last census conducted in Nigeria, youths constitutes the large percentage of the total population of Nigeria. Education is a right not previlege of any citizen of Nigeria. Youths are also believed to be the leaders of tommorow. I wonder the kind of leaders, El-Rufai entails to produce in nearest future.
Security: Furthermore, denying these youths the right to education through hiking of the tuition fees will inflict more danger to National security especially Kaduna State, Nothern Nigeria and Nigeria as a whole.
Possible Condition Of The State In Nearest Future: Education is the only tools that guides people especially the unlearned youths to differentiate between wrong and right. Denying these youths the right to education, is as good as producing the society of illiterates, political thugs, armed robbers, kidnapers, bandits and what have you, all these will be the result of increment of the school fees in Kaduna if care is not taken.
